About the Journal

Turkish Journal of Tobacco Control is an international, peer-reviewed, and open-access journal published by The Society for Health Promotion and Tobacco Control. First launched in 1992, the journal ceased publication in 2001 and resumed in 2025. It is published three times a year, in April, August, and December, and accepts articles in both Turkish and English.

The journal provides a platform for multidisciplinary research addressing the health, economic, societal, and environmental impacts of tobacco use. It aims to promote evidence-based interventions, innovative policy solutions, and critical discussions to combat the global tobacco epidemic, with a particular focus on the challenges faced in Türkiye and similar regions. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, the journal connects researchers, policymakers, educators, and health professionals to share knowledge and drive meaningful actions toward reducing the burden of tobacco-related diseases and building healthier societies worldwide.

Aim & Scope

The Turkish Journal of Tobacco Control aims to advance research and understanding of the multifaceted consequences of tobacco use. The journal emphasizes the impact of tobacco on public health, the economy, the environment, and societal well-being, offering a platform for evidence-based research, policy analysis, and discussions on preventive strategies.

A central focus of the journal is addressing regional and national tobacco control challenges in Türkiye while linking these efforts to the global fight against tobacco-related diseases. The journal welcomes contributions on innovative strategies, policy evaluations, ethical dimensions of tobacco control, and studies examining the activities of the tobacco industry and its affiliates.

Publication Frequency

Turkish Journal of Tobacco Control is published three times a year. Issues are released in April, August, and December.

The journal is published in both Turkish and English. Manuscripts can be submitted in either language.

Digital Archiving and Preservation

The content of Turkish Journal of Tobacco Control is archived through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which provides permanent archiving for academic journals. PKP PN utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) program to ensure decentralized and distributed preservation of content. This program guarantees continuous access to the original and unaltered version of the journal, ensuring long-term access. Additionally, the full-text versions of all articles published in the journal are stored in PDF format at the National Library of Türkiye.

Open Access Statement

Turkish Journal of Tobacco Control is an open access journal. All articles are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium or format, provided the original work is properly cited. Authors retain copyright of their published article. Open access ensures more reuse and citation, higher visibility and discoverability, greater engagement, immediate impact, increased interdisciplinary work and wider collaboration.

Turkish Journal of Tobacco Control adopts the Open Access Declaration published by the Budapest Open Access Initiative in February, 2002:

“By ‘open access’ to this [research] literature, we mean its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. The only constraint on reproduction and distribution and the only role for copyright in this domain should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited.”

The publisher guarantees not to charge any reader or library a subscription fee and a fee for access to published electronic articles.

Authors contributing to Turkish Journal of Tobacco Control agree to publish their articles under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). This license permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium or format, including commercial use, provided the original work is properly cited.

Authors retain copyright of their work, with first publication rights granted to the Society for Health Promotion and Tobacco Control.

The Society for Health Promotion and Tobacco Control accepts sponsorships from external entities to support the activities of the Turkish Journal of Tobacco Control. However, such sponsorships do not influence editorial decisions, and all content is developed solely on the basis of scientific merit. The journal maintains complete editorial independence to ensure that sponsorships do not compromise the integrity of the published content.

Turkish Journal of Tobacco Control does not accept advertising or sponsorship initiatives related to tobacco products, nor does it accept advertising or sponsorship proposals for products and services provided by tobacco companies, their foundations, or wholly-owned subsidiaries.
